Story
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep will take place about 10 years before the events of the first Kingdom Hearts game. It will feature new characters, whom of which will also wield the keyblade. We know that while Sora was just making friends (he would have been around 4 to 5) there were other Keyblade masters. One Keyblade master named Xehanort dissapeared along with his apprentice. It was then another Keyblade master sent his own three apprentices to find Xehanort.
Ven and Xehanort both resemble other characters that have allready been introduced to us through existing Kingdom Hearts games. We see that Ven has a strong resemblence to Roxas, and Xehanort has the same name and similar clothing to the one we have seen. (Check out the theories page for related information). From what we can tell, the secret movie shown at the end of Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+ is really a scene from the game. Good sutff.
Apparently, King Mickey was around to assist Ven and possibly the others as well around this time. There is also a scene from what we can see in the scans that appears to be Destiny Islands. (Check the theory page for information Shore has theorized there as well.)
We also know that there will be new worlds, and definetly old ones too in Birth By Sleep. Old ones will include Olympus Coliseum, Hollow Bastion, and Destiny Islands. Newe worlds may include Sunset Horizons and Sleeping Beauty.
Development
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep will be one of the newest editions to the Kingdom Hearts Series, and will focuse on the characters from the Secret Movie in Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix+. The game was announced September 2007, at the Tokyo Game Show, along with Kingdom Hearts: Coded and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days. Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep is being worked on by the same team that created Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories. Development for this game did actually start a long time ago, but it was halted when the team started to focus on the remake of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories instead. Nomura has also said that Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep will most likely be the last of the three games to be released.
Gameplay
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep will, just like all the rest, be a single player game. BBS originally had game play similar to KHI and KHII, however, Tetsuya Nomura has stated that the game play has indeed changed. Instead of having the real time system like that of KHI and KHII Nomura has stated it will feature a system like that of Chain of Memories. This obviously means we will be using decks. Why he made that decision, I have no clue. One cool feature includes the option to choose which character you wish to play as at the beggining of the game. You may choose from Ven, Terra, or Aqua. Each will have their own style of combat and follow their own plot. Even though the story follows three different heroes, at certain points they will all encounter one another. Despite this cool feature, one must play as all three to really understand the entire game and it's storyline. A new leveling system has been created and developed solely for this game as well! We don't really know much about it as of late, though. There are also new enemies, and they are not heartless - or nobodies. We don't know what they are named so far. Co-op between players, even players competing against each other, has been discussed. We do know, though, that if Birth By Sleep has a multiplayer it will be different from the one seen in Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days.
